Q4

For my audience analysis we conducted an online survey using the ‘survey monkey’ website. This website was very useful as it allowed me to share the link with others so that they could fill it out easily online. Also I was able to embed the survey onto my blog making it easily accessible and made it easier as it calculated my results for me. Anonymous /
I used Netflix which is a site/app where you pay a subscription monthly to view films – There are regularly new films uploaded on Netflix – So I can view a wide variety of horror films. For example, from my textual analysis.
PowToon – I used this site as it allowed me to present my research so that it is more visually eye-catching and pleasant to view. For example, using ‘PowToon’ for my research on the conventions of horror allowed me to add transitions to my work that are different to Microsoft PowerPoint and it also allowed me to turn my work into a short video – It was very easy to use and made a big impact on my work.
Slideshare – I used this site to upload my presentations form Microsoft PowerPoint on this site as it allowed me to format my work in a more interesting way and it allowed me to embed my work onto my blog. I have used slideshare to present my audience analysis and research job roles in film industry.
Emaze – This site allowed me to create and present my work in a presentation style format and it allowed me to present my research more made it more interesting to look at as it allowed me to incorporate a different layout style to my work. I uses ‘Emaze’ to present my research on Psychological horror film examples and sub-genres of horror. I was also able to embed my ‘Emaze’ presentation onto my blog.
Prezi – I used Prezi and this was my favourite way of presenting my work as it different to the typical presentation styles as it engages the viewers more with the transitions and the layout of the presentations is more eye-catching and intriguing. This site also allowed me to embed my work straight onto my blog
YouTube – I used YouTube to research different Camera properties and this gave me an insight on how to use the cameras for filming and taking images. This was very useful as there are many videos on YouTube that helped understand Camera compositions and work such as the rule of thirds, depth of field, white balance and more. YouTube allowed  – a library of horror films so you could analyse conventions, media language
Internet – read essays / theories, ideas from media academics
Soundcloud – Allowed me to upload audio which I them uploaded on my blog, for example conversations between me and Fahmida on our audience analysis were uploaded using Soundcloud. This is a very useful site as it allows you to upload your own audio, which you can then share to your audience.
·       Planning

WhatsApp helped me to communicate with my target audience, for example, we asked our target audience to give us feedback for our draft poster, for us to see what they thinks will ned improving and what will appeal to them. WhatsApp was also very useful for communicating with our Actors as most of our planning for production dates were planned on there.
Microsoft Word document – Allowed me to type up documents such as the proposal and treatment for our film – we decided to present these on a word document as this is the traditional way of uploading such documents which I decided to stick to. Also Word document was very useful for creating tables for example for my costume and props list, it allowed me to present my costume and prop list in a different layout – which is easier to read and look at.
Scribd. – I used this site to upload word and PDF documents as it makes the layout of my blog more professional and it looks more presentable than just directly blogging on my blog.
Storyboard that – Used it to create my storyboard images – made it easier than hand drawing as the images look better and clearer using this site, this site was very useful as it includes many useful features such as different characters, background images and images that were very useful to use.
Powtoon – Used PowToon to create an animatic of my storyboard, this site was very useful for creating my animatic as it allows you to create a video and allows you to include images and text as well as interesting and different transitions.
Slideshare – Allowed me to upload My PowerPoint presentations such as my pitch and my recce as they were both ordinary presentations so by uploading it on Slideshare I was able to present my work in a different format
Camera – was used to record our audience feedback for radio trailer and storyboard. We used a camera to record this as it produces a higher quality video and so that we have different ways of presenting our work. Also camera was used to take pictures of written audience feedback.
YouTube – Allowed us to upload our videos of audience feedback – that can then be embedded onto our blogs and can also be kept as a record of our audience feedback.
Mobile phone – to record sounds effects such as screams for when filming
Dictaphone – to record sounds and it produces a better quality of sound – for example the sounds recorded for our draft radios were recorded onto a Dictaphone and sound effects e.g. screams.
Sound cloud to upload draft radio trailers and recordings of presentations for example a presentation on horror film classifications by the BBFC. We also decided to use soundcloud to upload our final radio trailer as it allows us to share the trailer with our audience easily.
Communication : email /
·       Production

Digital canon 1200D cameras – We used these cameras as they gave us a high quality sound and it has an external microphone, which was very useful.
Camera for photos – We used the cameras to take pictures for our poster, we used the Digital canon cameras as it produced high quality images
Dictaphone – to record sound effects such as
Microphone
·       Post-Production (Editing)

Final cut pro – Used final cut pro to edit our film – it is more technical than using iMovie and and it allowed us to cut footages and we were a
Logic pro – ADR, trailer
Audacity
Photoshop
Da Font
To edit our film we used Final Cut Pro where we put all our recorded footage onto there and edited out any mistakes, using the cut tool.
We also added in transitions in between certain scenes. For example the ‘zoom and pan’ transition to imply its moved to different part of the setting. We also used the ‘directional’ transition and the flashback transition for before and after the flashback connoting further that it’s a flashback.
We also tried fixing our lighting by looking at the different filters used in final cut, we tried out different filters to make the lighting match to each scene. Moreover, we used a different filter for the flashback scene to indicate the past tense.
At the point of the flashback we added a filter to ‘black and white’ to indicate the past.
We also layered sounds into our film, we added in sound effects such as a scream, non-diegetic background playground noises to set the atmosphere of our scene and added in non-diegetic incidental music to set the mood of the film.
When we were editing, we had the choice of a variety of footage to choose from such as the same shot in different angles and different ways so when we was selecting which ones to use we would select the ones that looked the best. It was good that we had a selection to choose from as it allowed us to see what looks good from different viewpoints.
More over we used a split screen of four in the beginning of our film this is so that we can introduce our audience to our main characters along with that we added in text labeling the characters with their stereotypical character so the audience knows who’s who

We used Photoshop to create our poster by adding the photos we took for out poster onto Photoshop, changing the tone and lighting of the poster as well as print on the text with the font styles we chose.
To edit our film trailer we used the device called garage band to edit the sound effects, music and characters voices.
To record our evaluation, we used a Dictaphone to record all the information from our questions that we typed up using Microsoft word then printed it out and recorded it onto the device. We then, exported the recording from the device onto Audacity then edited it by using the cutting tool to remove and cut out any errors made to that it flowed better without any stuttering or mistakes as well as cutting down some of the length and duration of the recording. Moreover, after that we then saved this clip onto our desktop of the mac and further uploaded it into final cut pro. This device enabled our evaluation to come to life as we incorporated images and video clips from our actual film to support what we was saying. We also added sounds and music in final cut pro from our radio trailer so you are able to to get an idea of what the radio trailer sounds like when we was talking about the sound elements and sound effects in our radio trailer and film.
